I Am a Slacker, I Know!

Yeah--I know it's been a long time since I updated my blog. It has been a long winter but seems like it just flew by so fast. I probably should just put a bit of an update from the last three or four months for posterity or something.

The Biggest Loser Contest started out with a big bang but peetered out to a few caps smoking! We had only three people win: Kiera won by being more careful about what she ate and exercising daily on the Wii Fit at home! Congrats to Kiera! Then we had Michelle and Rebecca who just had babies and lost their weight by nursing babies and chasing kids. Hardly an amazing feat, but still an accomplishmet! We are proud of you too! Everyone else came short of the goal. However, dad finally decided to lose some weight and is doing a good job. And I am watching what I eat and just having smaller meals which will help me lose weight over the next couple of months so I can fit into summer clothes.

Joseph arrived in Salt Lake City in February--fresh out of the Army. He has taken over the spare bedroom and has found a job he likes (working at Olive Garden as a server) and is hoping to get hi own place by next month.

In February, we travelled to Las Vegas to see Andrew, Michelle and the kids and to join with the Keslers for the blessing of little Dahlin! It was a fun weekend...and very hectic and busy!

We also had dinner one night in February with two of our missionaries---Matt Dixon and Sam Dahlin and their wives. We had a great time with them and after dinner enjoyed a Jazz Basketball game. We decided then to plan a missionary reunion for the Friday before conference in April. Sam Dahlin was honored that Michelle named her baby after him!

In March (2nd) we welcomed little Quinn Douglas Barnum into te world! He had a tough time at first learning how to eat. I am sureHeather and Jay would not want to repeat those first couple of weeks. Poor Heather had to stay at the hospital for several days after she was discharged to feed Quinn every 3 hours and she was still so sore from the C-Section. They gave her a little room with a bed but she had no help or food. We brought her food and so did Jay. It was tough on Lauren because she couldn't see mommy and baby and then she got sick about the time everyone came home from the hospital. I moved in to the guestroom at the Barnum house and took care of Lauren and kept her from the baby and momma. Turns out Lauren had RSV and was quite sick with a fever and cough. As soon as I left and went back home, I got sick with the same thing Lauren had! lauren has since been able to enjoy her baby brother a lot. And everyone is doing well now. Quinn was born with a hole in his heart. But the last time they went to the cardiologist, the Doctor felt that the hole might be closing on its own. The power of prayers and blessings!

Greg's mom started to have lots of problems this winter and ended up in a care facility. After she was discharged from the facility, Marty and Tammy Gollaher took care of her in their home for about three months. She started to really go down hill the end of March and died on April 3 in her sleep. She died right in the middle of General Conference in the morning session. It was a blessing for her and she was so ready to go. Her funeral was beautiful. All her children spoke. Our girls sang, all the grandchildren and great grandchildren sang, and there was a beautiful spirit there. Nathan, Becca and Phil and Michelle and Andrew and their kids all came for the funeral. We missed Ann-Marie and the kids a lot.

This month has been very eventful for our family. The end of March I got a gall bladder attack--3 of them. Finally I went to the emergency room cause the pain was so bad. I was really worried. Turned out to be gall stones. I was grateful for the morphine for the pain. So on April 1, I had surgery to remove the gall bladder. It took a couple of weeks to recover---even with Laproscopic surgery. Greg took such good care of me and worked all that afternoon making feijoada for our party the next day! He was very busy. I loved seeing our missionaries but couldn't stand up much---just sat on the couch and hugged missionaries who came over. I endned up seeing everyone that night and it was great. Then the next day was conference and Greg's mom passed away. What a weekend! Poor Greg--he was so busy he could hardly sleep. He also had to finish everything for his trip to Arizona for a Coordinating Council meeting with Area Seventies, mission presidents and Stake Presidents. (Greg is the executive secretary for Elder Costa of the Seventy.) On top of all this, he had to plan a funeral and pack up grandma's house, because it was sold and the people wanted to close quickly. We also had to take furniture to Becca and Phil (we bought some of grandma's furniture for Phil and Becca's new home) What a month this has been!

Pictures of all of this to follow!

Wow, you HAVE been busy. I wish I knew President Gollaher was in Arizona. We would have loved to take him out to dinner. Maybe next time???
