We are thinking of all of you and praying for you always. We are especially praying for little Quinn. His surgery went well and now comes the recovery time. We hope you are all keeping abreast of what is going on with Quinn. Heather has said that everyone in the family has been so attentive. We love you all for that and for your concern for Heather and Jay and their little ones. We are being richly blessed as a family. We are feeling that already.
We just wanted to let you know about some things that are going on with us. What an incredible experience we have had already! The Workmans are special people and we have loved being with them. They remind me a lot of the Hillams. Things have been very busy here. It is definitely not a vacation! We were in training for ordinance workers non stop the first 4 days we were here. We heard each others talks so much that we could probably have traded places and done just fine! Pres. Workman is a great teacher. We are already learning so much from both of them!!
On Saturday we took off to town (Town is Honolulu) with Pres. and Sis Workman to get things for our apartment and food at Costco. We filled an entire van with the things we all needed. We had only come here with our suitcases so we had to buy a few things to set up our home. We are living in an apartment that is about the size of our first apartment when we got married. It's about 650 square feet. It has the essentials. We actually had to box up some of the dishes and pans that had been left by previous tenants (ie. temple missionaries) because there was no room in the cupboards for food! That's a big problem. You have to have food, right? We have a bigger problem and that is remembering our house keys. We are so used to walking out our door at our condo and then punching the number to get back in! We left ot walk this morning and forgot keys. We luckily met up with Workmans who were also out walking and got a key from them. We will get used to it. We live very close to the temple---just a short walk away.
The open house is going well. We are not involved in it at all. In fact they want us out of the way. We stay at home and work on assignments and also go through the back door and go to our office when we need to be there. Greg is working non stop getting the schedules for the temple workers all done. It is a big job because each temple is different in the needs it has on each shift. We will need 21 women and about the same number of men on each shift and they all need assignments the entire time they are at the temple. So Dad is working on that. He is in his element. We had a fun experience speaking to a stake conference full of students on Sunday. Of course I had not been informed that I would be speaking as well as my husband, so that was FUN! Reminded me of mission times. Elder Archibald and Elder Oliveira did it to me on a few occasions! Last minute talks--usually a great experience because the Holy Ghost is the one speaking instead of us! You have to rely on Him! We both had leis on for the meeting--had forgotten about that too. Hawaii is a unique place.
Now, lest you feel sad you are not here in Hawaii because the weather on the mainland has turned cold, I want to tell you that is has been rainy and very windy since we got here. We have also been so busy that we have not golfed (and who wants to golf in gale force winds anyway). So that might be some consolation to you winter folks! It is however, still warm and comfortable even in the rain. And our air conditioner is on most of the time.
We went to dinner at Haleiwa Joes with the Workmans and also the full time missionaries that serve in the temple--a delightful couple, the Kealohas, that served as Counselor and assistant to the matron to J. Richard Clark who served as President here in 1999-2002. We served with the Kealohas when we lived in Hawaii before. They were missionaries then too. They were excited to see us again as we were to see them. The restaurant is in a gorgeous setting. I thought last night, "I never thought I'd see this place again." It is amazing how the Lord works. In fact I reminded the students on Sunday that their lives were not their own. And if they followed the Spirit and did as the Lord directed, they would have some incredible experiences in their lives. I really believe that!
It was fun Sunday night to go to Foodland grocery store. I had forgotten how the whole town goes to the store to stock up for Sunday dinner! (And we Needed ice cream!!!) We ran into lots of people we knew from before. It was so fun to see them. Everywhere we go we see people in their cars or walking that say hi to us. It is like a coming home I guess. We will be getting to know so many people as we work with them at the temple or greet them as patrons when they come to do temple work. They are great saints here.
Well, continue to pray for Quinn. We love that little guy. Heather said she has felt our prayers. I told her the angels are round about to lift her and Jay up. They have been richly blessed. Little buddy Quinn seems to be doing much better today. It is going to be hard for him as he recovers....all the stuff coming in and out of him! My goodness---I guess you have all seen the pictures on their blog. Wow. But I am sure they will remove a lot of the tubes and stuff when they move him out of ICU. Anyway, we love you all tons and tons! We are blessed and blessed by the Lord. I am so grateful to be one of his servants.
